  1. A very strong man named John Riordan who lived in Tubrid was a great stone thrower and wrestler. He had a contest with many people and beat them. All the people around the district used go to see him contesting. There was a great runner in Tubrid also named Mike Hurley. He raced many people and won. He had a race with a man named Tom Egan and beat him. He raced him three quarters of a mile.
    A man named Willie Connor who lived in this district was a great walker. One day there was a fair in Castleisland. He was sent there the day before with a cow. When he arrived there he could get no lodgings. He walked home and went to bed. He got up at midnight and was the first at the fair that morning.
    A man named Mike Fenmerty who lived in Tubrid was a great high jumper and long jumper. One day he went to a sports in Abbeydorney, All the boys from Lixnaw and Ballyduff were there. None of them could beat him at high or long jump.
    Jack Clifford who lived in Tubrid was a great mower. He could mow a field of hay in two days while it would take other mowers five days to mow it.
