  1. My father went out one evening to fodder the cows . He heard a noise and he looked down and saw on his own island a whole lot of little men fighting and he went into his house and told the ceiliders (visitors for the night). Duffy and Lynch came out and Duffy said "bless yourselves and go home these are the 'good people' fighting about Duffy's fort in Errew. "
    This happened the time of the Crimean war and at the same time that Dan Kiernan (my father ) saw this battle on the lake, a battle was fought in the Crimea.
