- A good many years ago a big merchant named Collis lived in Barrow. He was very rich and did a big trade with many places far away. Schooners used to come up to the quay wall that time with cargoes of coal and timber to him, and many barrels of wine and other drinks used to be brought too. Collis was a smuggler and used to trade with Spain and Denmark in them days.
One of his steamers, "Peggy" was her name was carried on the rocks and broken during a storm. The place where she got jammed between two rocks is ever since known as "Poll Peggy".
