  1. We have five cows which are kept in the cow-house during the winter nights. They are tied with chains. In olden times cows were tied with a gad made of osiers and a rope or sugan.
    We have three horses, two working ones and a foal. The two working horses are kept in a stable during the winter nights. One horse's name is Dick. We call the other the pony. Dick is a Scotch horse and the pony is an Irish bred pony.
