- Cnoc an Breac is the name of a townland near this place. It got its name from a large trout which appeared in a stream which flows through it. Long ago, at mid-night, this fish was supposed to be seen under a bridge which crosses the stream. Many people came to see this big fish but seldom it appeared. On one occasion two men waited to see the fish and when it appeared one man tried to catch it. The fish disappeared and was never seen afterwards. Ever since it is called Cnoc an Breac.
