  1. There was once a very rich old gentleman. He owned two large farms. He lived with his wife and family in one of the farms. He kept a herds-man and his wife who lived on the other farm. There was a long distance between the farms. The gentleman would often drive in a carriage, drawn by two horses, to visit the herds-man and look after his stock and land and he always gave the herds-man a few days notice before each visit.
    One day the herds-man's wife went to a shop near by, and, on her way back she was crossing fields. When she came in view of the entrance gate to the farm,
