  1. The month of May and also the months of Autumn are considered unlucky times for marriages. Easter-tide and Shrove-tide and June and July are the popular dates. Wednesday is the day chosen locally for marriages as it is the luckiest according to the following rhyme,
    "Monday for health
    Tuesday for wealth
    Wednesday for the best day of all
    Thursday for losses
    Friday for crosses and
    Saturday no day at all"
    It is a local custom to put chalk on mens' backs who are not married. This is done to make them
