  1. Old Crafts
    Soap was manufactured in Abbey St, Portumna about 80 years ago in the building which is now used as a barrack. The iron beams and other parts of machinert were only removed a dew years ago. There was also a candle factory near the Old Castle. Alfred o'Keeffe used to make tallow-candles from melted down grease and the wick from hemp. The hemp was made from twine and wax.
    Basket-making was carried on in nearly every home around Portumna. They were made from sally-rod. When
