  1. Once upon a time a poor man had one small meadow, which he cut and saved each year. He built a cock on a rock, which was in the meadow. The cock looked very big and a man came to buy it. Next day he sent six or seven carts for it and they were only half full. When they sent home they told the farmer about the rock. He came to the poor man and said "Why did you build the hay on the rock", the other said, "St Peter built his church on a rock and why should not I build my hay on the rock".
