- One of the best hurlers in this place was Pat Rourke from Barrahane. This man relied upon in all the sports-fields in the North of Kerry to win their hurling matches for them. Very often when the game seemed lost O'Rouke was sure to outdo the other side by scoring a goal or a point, and turn what would mean defeat into victory. He was a member of the Kerry hurling team who won an All Ireland final about fifty or sixty years ago.
