  1. In the year of 1798 when the homes of the Irish people were plundered by the English yoemen there was a man in the townsland of Coonogue. In the Parish of Adamstown named William Power who was constantly visited by the soldiers but who always eluded his pursuers On one occasion however he was surrounded and had to fight his way through the soldiers outside, he escaped and he ran to a nearby furze knock known as Carneys Hill He then called on the soldiers to come on Knowing what the soldiers would do, he made his escape, when they came up they set the knock on fire, but he was after making good escape.
    The soldiers then left thinking that he was burned in the knock.
