- Fairs are held in nearly every town in Ireland. In some towns they are held in a field called the "fair green." In small towns, they are held in the street. There is a fair held in Broadford twice every year. It is held on the 21st of June and on the 21st of November. It is held in the street. The cattle and sheep are sold on the same day. When the buyer pays the seller he gives back a few shillings to the buyer. This is called a "luck penny" Long ago there were more fairs(continues on next page)
