- The people long ago did not depend on doctors' cures. They depended more on their own cures. They had a remedy for every ailment. If they had a cut in their hand, they would rub a cobweb to it. If they had a burn in their hand or foot they got a leaf call the hounds tongue, and put it to the burn. There was a certain stone called the "wart stone" in some fields.
