  1. In early spring the potatoes are sown. In preparing the ground for the potato crop the farmers get a pair of horses and a plough and give the ground two, and sometimes three ploughing and harrows it out so as to break all the lumps before he opens the drills. He then half-fills the drills with manure from the farm yard and if the ground is poor he adds artificial manure. The
