- Shrove is the time for people to get married. Some people like to get married on a certain day. If they don't get married on that day, they way they would have bad luck forever. If there is rice thrown on the married pair, it is said they would have good luck. But if the bride-groom's dress gets thorn coming down from the alter, it is said they would have bad luck.
