  1. There are many forts all over Ireland. They were built by the Danes when they came over to conquer Ireland. When war came they would run into them. Then they could not be killed. When the Danes were put out of Ireland, it is said that fairies came to live in them. When the people heard this they were afraid to cut a tree or do anything to them. It is said that a young man went into one of them, and when he came out he was very old, for it was said that a fairy gave him a drink of wine
