- In olden times boot and shoes were not as plentiful as they are now. The people wore no shoes until about the age of eighteen or twenty years. They were nearly all handmade for there were no machines for making shoes. Lots of people wore clogs and some wore gutta-perka shoes. Some people wore clogs because they were very poor for they were not able to buy better. The soles of clogs are shaped out of a piece(continues on next page)
