  1. When Tom Murphy went and found the captain Mr. Billy Byrne at the cannon, working it himself, and he discoloured with perspiration and smoke from the effects of the heavy work. He asked Billy Byrne to leave him at the cannon he was in such a state and to go back to his men, for to guide them. Unfortunately the ammunition soon ran out and Billy let them know they would have to retreat to Gorey; but the pikemen gathered round him and said: Our pikes are as sharp as ever. Line us up to have one charge at the Durham Finsibles of Hilladuff in satisfaction of blowing up poor Father Murphy.
    The Battle of Horetown was fought before the battle of Ross. The Insurgent's came by the Three Rocks and fought there, then they fought at Horetown
