  1. Hedge schools existed in our district about eighty years ago. One of the schools was held in Mike Mastersons of Furmillagh(?). The teachers was a lay man who had a fair knowledge of English, Latin and Greek. His name was McDonald. He used to get two pounds a year from each pupil. The pupils wrote with slate pencils and slates.
    There was no black board in the schools. Any think the masters wrote it was on the floor he wrote it.
