  1. In the year eighteen hundred and eighty; there was a faction fight between two local families. There names were O'Reilly's of Errew and Minagh's of Aughauillen. This faction fight was held at a fair in Arva. They were armed with blackthorn sticks, stones, and "loaden butts". The "loaden butts" were whips with a square of iron on one end.
    There was another faction fight at Glan-crossroads. It was in eighteen forty two. The names of the families were the Mc Dermott's and the Sweenies. They were armed with "loaden butts" and stones. The fight lasted three or four hours. In the end the Mc Dermotts
