  1. A Ghost Story.
    Collected by James Maguire,
    Drumderglin,
    Carrigallen,
    Co. Leitrim.
From James Mac Govern (same address). (70).
Malavy had a girl hired, and he would not marry her. She went to America and she was to be revenged[?] dead or alive. He got married to a girl; the same name of Masterson. Her brother went on a visit to Malavy's house. He stopped in it that night and he could not sleep with the noise through the house and a cradle rocking, and the tongs rattling. He said he would not sleep another night in it; if he got a pound. The next night they all heard it. They all had to go out but Malavy and the servant boy. Malavy stopped the next night alone. He put bars to the door. It knocked the bars from the door and broke up to the room where Malavy was sleeping. It tore the clothes off the bed. Malavy got twelve priests. It failed the twelve priests; when Fr. Charles O'Reilly had to come. It went when Fr. Charles O'Reilly came. He said he would not do a job of the sort again. He went home and went to bed. He died in a fortnight afterwards. It knocked the clamps of turf in the bog going along. It went off in the shape of a dog.
Malavy lived in the parish of Aughavas, Barony of Mohill, Co. Leitrim.
