shooting of a gamekeepere on Brandon Hill, and that he got the money for swearing on them.
These three fellow were caught with the gamekeeper on Brandon Hill. They were poaching. They had a tussle and the gamekeeper fired and shot wan fellow - he didnt shoot him dead, he only wounded him. When the lad was falling he cocked his own gun and fired at the gamekeeper and shot him dead. Those fellows were brought up over it, and 'twas this ould tramp, this ould blind man, was supposed to have informed on 'em.
Anyway he got killed at Coadys.
I used hear rate collectors saying that it was the devil to get money out of them when they'd go to collect the rates. And sure they have bags of money, but they are terrible hungry and near.
