  1. (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
For ten long hours we fought, the while our friends fell thick and fast
And for five thousand dauntless men that morning was the last
And still this made our keenest pang when mourning our our loss
With blood we bought, for drink was sold, the Battle of New Ross.
Tras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
  2. (gan teideal)

The Battle of Horetown was fought before the Battle of Ross.

The Battle of Horetown was fought before the battle of Ross. The Insurgent came along by the Three Rocks on through Taghmon & from that to Horetown. The Battle of Horetown started at Goff's Bridge and ended up at the Cross above here (Highlanders Cross) They fought up along there. Twas an awful hot summer that year. The hottest summer was ever seen it seems
The Insurgents camped on the hill of Carrighbyrne, and then they went on to Corbett's Hill just outside Ross Twenty thousand of 'em.
This old song is very popular in Co. Wexford.
