  1. Wexford and its surroundings played a very important part in the rebellion of 1798. For example the rebels made a great victory at the "Three Rocks, which is four miles from Wexford town, and on the Taghmon road It was on the 30th of May 1798 that this bloody contest took place. A detachment of the military were attacked and destroyed, and it is said that some of their bodies were buried in a field at the left hand side of the Slaney road going into Wexford. There is a clump of trees to mark the place where they were buried, and they are to be seen there to the present day.
