“There was a priest and his boy driving to a sick call wan night...”
There was a priest and his boy driving to a sick call wan night. 'Twas a grand moonlight night, as bright as the day.
When he came to a certain spot on the road they say four squares and a fourshilling piece in each square. The boy stopped and he wanted to get out.
"What's wrong with you?" says the priest.
"Look at the squares, and all the fourshilling pieces," says the chap.
"Drive on," says the priest, "wait 'til we're coming back and you'll see what they are."
They got to the house where the sick person was and the priest went in.
After a while he came out and got into the car and they started for home.
When they came to the spot, they stopped to examine it and what was in the squares but four black "clocks".
(Beetles are called "clocks", "black clocks" in Wexford).
