  1. A man and his wife lived together in Drumskellan, Parish of Muff, County Donegal. The woman got a prize hen as a present. They had a garden of potatoes in front of the house. The hen had a habit of going into the garden to scrap at the potatoes. She was in them one day and the man threw a stone and killed her. He told his wife what he had done and she was very angry. She roasted the hen and said not a bite of it would he taste. When the hen was roasted she put it on a plate and locked it in a press. She went out then to to ask some
