- At the time of the potato Famine about one hundred people died of hunger in this district. The potatoes were in good growth in the evening and the next morning they were all decayed away in the drills.
- The potatoes decayed in the ground. The people had to get the seed from the government for the next year. They made twelve cuts out of every potato. The people's food was oatmeal porridge and swans and oatcake. A man had to dig all day for a bucket of potatoes, and they ate their last meal of potatoes on Halloweve night.
