  1. There was a hedge school in the hedge between James McGarrigle and Tom McGarrigle's, Townland of Carnamoyle, Parish of Muff, Co. Donegal. The teacher's name was O' Kane. He lodged in the children's houses. The children wrote on slates. They broke a piece off the slate to write with. When they got paper, the pens they wrote with were goose quills.
