- Glenbeigh Treasure
The ancient people used to say that there is a fort in Glenbeigh near the school in Lynch's land in which a man hid a leather sack of sovereigns for his old days and when he was dying he told his friends that it was in such a place. One man went into the fort with the light of a candle he passed through five doors and in every door there was a flag. He had to creep with his hands and feet to get through them. When he came to the fifth door he was met by a turkey which had like to eat him. Lots of people tried to get the money but failed in doing so after that there was a ghost seen rambling around there from ten o'clock in the night. All the people tried to make it their business to be at home before the ghost would be out. A boy happened to be out late and he met her. She attacked him and every furze root he got from Murphy's up he wore it beating her, he tried to go to into a house but she came in the door before him so he had to follow on home until his braces broke. He tried to mend them but while he was doing so she turned herself into a cock of hay and smother[ed] him so he was got dead in the morning in the corner of the field.(continues on next page)- Collector
