You maidens of beauty I'm one that's forlorn, I carelessly wandered so far from my home ...

    I
You maidens of beauty I'm one that's forlorn,
I carelessly wandered so far from my home,
Im off by the moonlight to the day break of morning
Im found on the mountains of Dark Innishowen.
    II
I strayed round the place of the once called Clonmany
In search of a fair one who might be my own.
But a maid for to love me I could not find any,
From Mindoran Bridge to the Gap of Mamore.
    III
No wonder Im lonely since I left her dwelling,
No wonder her absence I here do make known,
When I think on that green spot the land of that rare on
I pine for my true love in Dark Innishowen.
    IV
But distance drives us in dreams I caress her
I think myself as happy as if I were at home.
When I think on that vision that bade me carress her
To a bosom thats pining around Dark Innishowen.
    V
But now I am stationed in the Co. Fermanaugh
I left my we darling with her parents at home
And if ere I return it will be to marry,
That lovely wee lassies in Dark Innishowen.
