  1. Around this district long ago fairies were often seen. Lots of the old people who live to this day have seen fairies.
Around Cloughfin the people used to see fairies very often. There is a large rock outside the town and the people say that they live in it. A man was passing by this rock one night and he heard great noise coming after him. He stood and looked back and what did he see behind him but about forty men on horses.
He stood in to the side of the road to let them pass but they halted and five or six of them jumped down and caught him. They took him inside the rock and told him to enjoy himself along with them. They started to dance and sing and he never found the time passing. At last they threw him outside.
He tried to walk but he found that he had grown very old and could hardly walk. When he went in he was a young man.
