  1. There are many times of the year in which people may be married but the most popular time is Shrove. Many people believe that the months of May and August was unlucky. There are days, too, on which people do not like to be married and these days are different in different places.
    Matches are usually made in Ireland especially when there is any property. When a farmer wants to get his son married he looks for a girl with a dowry and then they start making the match. Agreements are made by a solicitor and very often the match is broken for some trivial cause.
    If all goes well the parties are married and there is a big wedding at which straw boys attend.
