  1. Bread has been called the staff of life. It is the food that supplies the body with most energy and is therefore more sustaining than many other foods. Bread is made from flour, which is produced from wheat either home grown or imported.
    Home grown wheat makes the best and most wholesome bread, but Indian meal is sometimes mixed with it and this is called mixed bread. In olden days bread was a great rarity in Ireland in some houses it was not known. At that time potatoes were the staple food of the Irish race.
