    too obstinate, too proud perhaps, his battle plans to tell.
    I need not speak of Customs fate with his gallant comrades brave
    That smashed the planks that held the bridge, and plunged into the waves
    Down its beams came toppling with a fearful crash did fall
    Into the tide rolled gun and horse Brent and Burgan all.
    Brave Bunwick [?] now he sailed to France to haste the promised aid
    But a lack of confidence on his part
    Alas! to long he delayed
    And back again to Limericks' walls
    where I did resolve to stand
    and fight till death around me gleamed in single Battle brand
    Oh heaven how can I tell my woe and my disgrace.
    I dropped that sword of victory and signed that pledge of peace.
