We went off down to the river, which is about two hundred yards from where Jim said he saw the man. When we got to the far side of the river Jim sat down on the grass and I asked him was there anything the matter with him. "Oh begor" says he "I'm not able to go any farther." "Oh" says I that beats all what is the matter with you."? I went over to him and he was after taking off his cap and there was a steam coming out of his hair and the sweat was pouring down his face. "What in the name of God is the matter with you at all" says I. "Ok. I'm not right at all" says he since I met that man in the lane." I told him to get a sup of water and he did
