    Long ago mushrooms were more plentiful than they are nowadays.

    Long ago mushrooms were more plentiful than they are nowadays. It is the general belief here in Wexford that there is something very uncanny about mushrooms. All the old folk will tell you that there is a very close connection between the fungi and the "good people". They could not be induced to believe otherwise. They say that mushrooms will grow in one hour, and if a person happens to go through a field in which there are mushrooms, and looks at them the belief is that they will not grow any bigger.
    There was a man went out one night in July to pick mushrooms. (July and August are the months for the mushrooms.) This man went to a field which he knew was full of
