“There was a man wan time and he was going to town...”
There was a man wan time and he was going to town and a neighbour asked him to bring him home some message from the town. He didn't want to bring it at all and says he "I'm not going to oblige myself and de-oblige others" He meant to say the opposite.
Another time he had a falling out with somebody and at last he got so mad he threw off his coat and says he "D'ye know me boy that your not goin' to be conquered by me".
There was another day and this fellow was at a threshing and all the people were trying to lift some big weight. There was one man there and he bet a bet a bob that he would carry the weight twenty yards. This fellow soon stood up(continues on next page)
