  1. (continued from previous page)
Where tillers rest from scythes and ploughs,
Hugh ancient trees with mossy trunks,
Alone keep vigil o'er it now.

    (IV)
The Ragtin lifts its wind swept crest,
A lofty haunt of sea mist grey,
Dark Binion hills loom in the west,
Beyond the sweep of Tullagh bay,
Still pilgrims seek St Colmbas wells
That fashioned were by saintly hand,
    Near where the Atlantic swells,
Sweep in on Tullagh's golden strand.

    (V)
Hushed and forlorn it rests beneath,
The stolid hills whose scholars bore,
The light of learning and of faith,
To heathen lands afar; no more,
Its lighted portal greets the night,
That oft the late wayfarer cheered,
For moss and weeds upsurp its site,
    Even its walls have dissappeared.

    (VI)
No relic of its now exists,
Save yon lone plot of ancient graves, (head-stones)
Where sleep the dead 'neath mossy schists
    O'er which grass dishelved waves
There shall they rest while time unwombs,
The years beset with joys and ills,
Till Gabriel summons from their tombs,
    The dead amid Clonmany's hills.
