- Before doctors' treatments became common the people had to make their own cures for their ailments.
The following are some of the cures they used.-
Food left behind by a ferret was used for whooping cough. A stocking of hot potatoes or salt was tied on the throat until it would get cold. This was the cure for a sore throat. To go out under a briar was another cure for whooping cough. The cure for thrush was to get a person who never saw their father to breathe into the mouth of the invalid. The cure for mumps was to put a bridle on the person's neck. Get the child who'se parents have the same name to lead you to a stream. The cure for a stye on the eye was to point ten gooseberry thorns to the eye.
