The family name most common in Carrigeen is Lane, in fact the whole townland was owned in olden days by one of the "Big Lanes".
The townland of Carrigeen is noted for having contributed at least one member of each family to the Missionary fields in far off lands. These priest and nuns have written in prose and verse, praise of their native district.
