  1. Once there lived in Heathfield a lady named Miss Gardener. She owned a lot of land, and was, therefore, called "The Land Lady".
    People say that she was very bad to the poor.
    Any person she knew was rich she was very hard on him. Any one who had geese would have to half them with her.
    She used to put the people out of their houses and throw away their churns of milk, and they used to be out along the road at night.
    After a few years she was changed to Kilfian.
    She had a servant girl staying with her.
