- In the long ago days, people used not have wheaten bread. Instead they used to have oaten bread, Indian meal bread, barley bread and boxty bread.
The way they used to make the oaten bread was, they used first, put salt and butter-milk through the oaten-meal and then they used to mix it with a wooden spoon. They used to dry it well, and knead it and flatten it out thinly, and then bake it before the fire.- Collector
