  1. On the night of the 14th of August, 1927, there came a great flood.
    There is a river running behind our house, and it burst its banks and flowed everywhere; it flowed almost into our house.
    Barrels, pots, big stones and trees were carried down by it.
    The lawn which is quite close to Heathfield House was covered with big rocks of stones, and thousands of trout were lying dead all over it.
    The people going to Mass on the morning of the 15th of August had to return home, as the road was covered with water.
    Crops round this place were destroyed with the flood and the gravel which it brought in
