  1. Long ago there came a man to Carrowcullen. His name was Peter Lydon. He was a poet.
    He used to stay for a week in the village, spending a night in each house.
    The people of the village would come in to listen to him singing songs.
    He had the power to banish rats by making a "Pass" for them. Only a good scholar in those days could do that.
    One time a man had a plague of rats around his house, and he asked the poet to banish them from him. He came and made the "Pass" and placed the paper on which it was written
