  1. Long ago in Carromacshane, the people were able to cure almost every disease even broken bones or sprains. If a person sprained his foot or hand, a man or woman in the village was able to fix it by making a "spraining thread" for it. The thread was then tied round the sprain, and after a few days the injured limb became alright. A member of the family used to go to get the spraining thread made, for it would not be lucky for a neighbour to get it made for him ; in fact it is said that it is never right for
