  1. We have a flail at home. My grandfather threshed oats with this flail.
    It is made of two sticks, one light and one heavy one. They are coupled together with a thick fong. The heavy one you hold in your hand is called the "collahawn" and the light one is called the "bolthawn".
    You swing it over your head and strike the sheaves of oats with it.
