  1. Local Cures
    Long ago the people had many cures for different aiments.
    It is said that a fox's tongue has the power of curing sores caused by thorns.
    A chopped flagger root is said to cure a toothache, and the old cure for a burn is to rub the affected part with a dockleaf.
    A cure for a sore throat is to put roast potatoes into a stocking and tie it round your throat, while the application of red flannel is deemed to cure anything from rheumatism to the smallest pain in the bones. A sprain can be relieved if not cured by being held under falling water.
    A burn may be cured by being held close to the fire.
    Sore eyes may be cured by bathing them with cold
