  1. Once upon a time long ago there lived in Althshallen an old maid who was never known to give alms to anyone. But one day a beggarman went in and asked for his supper and the night's lodging and she said "no." But he did not go out for here. After a while she thought of a plan to get him put out so she told him that she would give hi the night's lodging if he would twist a rope for her. But when she got him half wat down the street she ran in and closed the door on him and when he was going away he began to sing
"I went in to an old maids house to day
And I thought that I would get my supper and the night's lodging
But she put me out with the twisting of a rope
But if I was within again she would not put me out so ready"
