  1. Saturday is an unlucky day to begin work, because if begun on that day it will be very slow to finish it. It is also an unlucky day to change from one house to another. Mondays and Thursday are lucky days to commence work. The Days of the Old Cow is the name given to the days in the beginning of April, because they are usually cold.
Whit Sunday is an unlucky day to go fishing. If you got scraped with a briar on that day it is supposed to be blood poisoned. If a cow calves on Whit Sunday the calf is said to die soon afterwards. If it happens that the calf does not die it will be very cross.
It is said that Good Friday is the luckiest day in the year for selling any plant. If they are set on that day they are sure to grow. If it rains on Friday the rain is said to continue all day.
The Twelve Days of Christmas date from St. Stephen's day to the sixth of January. The weather of the following twelve months may be judged by the weather of each day.
