- In Ireland almost every feast day has its own emblem of devotion and the tradition connected with those are very strictly adhered to.
On St. Patrick's Day the shamrock is worn by every Irish person at home and abroad, as it is believe it was by the three leaves of this little plant that St. Patrick demonstrated the Blessed Trinity.
On St. Brigid's Night crosses of straw are plaited and woven and placed in a conspicuous place in the kitchen principally behind the rafters. These are allowed to remain there until the following year and are then replaced by new one after which they are burned.
On May Eve, that is the evening before the first of May, it is the custom to strew all the streets and doorsteps with May flowers as it is believed to bring good luck for the remainder of the year.
Palm is used to a very great extent on the Sunday preceeding Easter to commemorate Our Lord's entry into Jerusalem when green branches were strewn underneath His feet. The palm when blessed is placed in the(continues on next page)
